Last weekend I talked to a buyer at an open house who told me that she wanted to wait until spring to buy a home (she’s currently in an apartment.) I asked her why and she responded “I just don’t want to move in the fall or winter.” I asked her if she was aware of the $8,000 tax incentive if she were to buy a home by November 30, 2008. She said, “Yes, but I don’t want that to influence my decision to wait.” WHAT? Well, how about the fact that interest rates are extremely low and prices of homes are extremely low. We don’t have any idea what the interest rates will be in spring, nor do we know what the prices of homes will be then. I’m not so sure that if I knew that I was going to purchase a home, that I would wait until spring. Time will tell if she is making a wise decision or not. I wish I had a crystal ball so I could tell people what the housing market will be like in Hutchinson, MN next spring!
